Accessibility statement

We want this site to work for everyone who needs a dentist, including people using a screen reader, a keyboard, a magnifier, or captions. If something here gets in your way, tell us and we will fix it — and in the meantime we will book your appointment over the phone.

Our commitment

Be You Dental Astoria aims to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA across this website. We treat accessibility as part of building the site, not a checkbox at the end, and we will keep working on it as we add pages.

Accessibility is not only a website matter. If you need an accommodation to be seen — a wheelchair-accessible route, extra time, an interpreter, a quieter appointment slot — tell us when you book and we will arrange what we can.

What we have done

  • A real heading structure. Every page has one h1 and nests its sections in order, so screen reader users can jump through the page by heading instead of reading top to bottom.
  • Descriptive alt text on photographs, and decorative images and icons are hidden from assistive technology so they are not announced as noise.
  • Keyboard navigation throughout. Every link, button, form field, and expanding FAQ answer can be reached and operated with the keyboard alone, in a sensible order. There is a “Skip to content” link as the first stop on every page.
  • A visible focus indicator. Whatever you have tabbed to is outlined in a high-contrast marigold ring, so you never lose your place.
  • Colour contrast. Body text, headings, and buttons are checked against the WCAG AA contrast thresholds, and we do not use colour on its own to carry meaning.
  • Text that resizes and reflows. Type is sized in relative units, so zooming or raising your browser's default font size enlarges the page instead of clipping it, and the layout reflows to a single column on small screens without side-to-side scrolling.
  • Labelled forms. Every field on the appointment form has a visible, permanently associated label — not a placeholder standing in for one — and errors are announced in text next to the form, never in a pop-up you have to catch.
  • Respect for reduced motion. If your device asks for reduced motion, the page's animations and smooth scrolling are switched off.
  • Semantic landmarks. Header, main, navigation, and footer are marked up as landmarks with labels, so assistive technology can move between them.
  • Clear link text. Links describe where they go, rather than saying “click here.”
  • No surprises from third parties. The Google map loads only if you ask it to, so nothing unexpected takes over the page.

Known gaps

Being honest is more useful than claiming perfection. As of the date above:

  • This site is a draft. Sections marked in yellow are unfinished content, and some of that content — before-and-after photographs, team photographs, patient reviews — will need alt text and captions written as it lands.
  • The Google map, once you load it, is Google's embedded content, and its accessibility is theirs rather than ours. The address is given as plain text next to it, and we will read directions to you over the phone.
  • We have not yet commissioned an independent audit or testing with paid assistive-technology users. [Third-party accessibility audit — not yet scheduled]
  • There is no video or audio on the site today. If we add any, it will ship with captions and a transcript.

Report a problem

If a page, a form, or a document on this site is hard or impossible to use, we want to hear about it — even if you are not sure it is our fault.

  • Call: (347) 566-8816, Monday to Friday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Email: info@beyoudentalastoria.com — please put “Accessibility” in the subject line
  • In person or by mail: Be You Dental Astoria, 31-72 31st St, Ste 1, Astoria, NY 11106

It helps, but is not required, if you can tell us the page you were on, what you were trying to do, and what you were using (for example “VoiceOver on an iPhone” or “keyboard only, no mouse”). We will confirm that we received your report and tell you what we are doing about it. [Target response time — to confirm with the practice]

Another way to get it done

You never have to use this website to become a patient. Call (347) 566-8816 and a person will take your details, answer the same questions this site answers, and book the appointment for you. We can read any page of this site aloud to you over the phone, and go through your treatment plan and costs the same way.

Dr. B sees patients in English and Spanish — se habla español. If you need another language or an interpreter, tell us when you call. [Interpreter arrangements — to confirm with the practice]

Technical notes

This site is built as plain HTML, CSS, and a small amount of JavaScript, with no framework, so it degrades gracefully. The appointment form needs JavaScript to submit; if yours is switched off, the form tells you so and gives you the phone number instead.

We aim to support the current and previous major versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari, on desktop and mobile, along with VoiceOver, TalkBack, and NVDA.

Accessibility standard applied: Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. This statement describes the site as it stands on the date above and will be updated as the site changes.
